How Chemical Peels Work
Light peels decrease the skin’s pH value, separating dead skin from living skin. Loose layers flake off easily, revealing a new layer of skin underneath. The skin adapts to this change, growing back stronger as a response to outside stimuli.
Medium and deep peels destroy cells, going a little deeper than the outer layer of the skin. When the body senses cell destruction on these deeper layers, it stimulates collagen production. These types of chemical peels have longer recovery periods.
Treatment Highlights
Chemical peels vary from light to deep and remove unhealthy layers of skin. This helps clients achieve clearer, smoother facial appearances.

Chemical Peels
Our Process
Your recovery steps will vary depending on the strength of the peel we use. In all cases, gently cleanse and moisturize the skin to prevent infection and promote healing.
The skin will take a few days to heal before results become visible. Once healed, you can enjoy clearer, refreshed skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Peels
This depends entirely on the type and intensity of the peel you get.
- Light peels often result in mild irritation and dryness. Expect little to no peeling with light peels. They cause light exfoliation.
- After medium peels, expect mild redness and stinging. The recovery process of mild flaking may last 2 to 5 days.
- Deep peels may have mild to moderate redness and peeling. Expect to have light flaking to moderate peeling for 4 to 7 days.
Post Care instructions are given with all peels.
Ideal candidates for chemical peels want to refresh the look and feel of their skin. If you’re looking for a simple and seamless exfoliation, consider our light peels. Our medium to deep peels helps with fine lines and wrinkles, pigment, pores, tone and texture. Deep peels are reserved on a case by case basis for more serious skin issues.
Single treatments help with minor improvements, but for significant change, we recommend multiple light chemical peel sessions. Each time you peel, your skin will appear refreshed and renewed. For more serious peels, going deeper into the skin, a single treatment will often produce lasting results.
Chemical peels offer a powerful way to rejuvenate your skin and achieve a clearer, more youthful complexion. During this treatment, we apply a specialized solution to your skin, which exfoliates the outer layers to reveal a fresher, smoother skin beneath. Many clients notice an improvement in their skin’s texture and tone after just one session.
Light peels and deep peels require slightly different approaches to preparing your skin for treatment. When in doubt, ask one of our expert providers at New Med Spa.
Light Peel
- Apply sunscreen regularly to protect your skin from damage.
- Do not tweeze, wax, or treat the area you wish to peel within a week of your appointment.
- Arrive at your appointment with a clean face clear of makeup or other products.
Medium/Deep Peel
- Follow the same steps associated with light peels.
- No facial waxing, tweezing, or dermaplaning 7 days before treatment.
- Pause using products like Renova, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, or Ziana, or any products that exfoliate or cause irritation.
Medium and deep peels extend far into your skin, reaching layers as deep as the Dermis. However, light peels only impact the epidermis, the topmost layer of skin. Your path to recovery can be made quick and easy by following these steps.
Light peels
- Wash your face with cool water. Hot water may feel uncomfortable.
- To promote fast healing, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Apply sunscreen to protect the layer of skin revealed by chemical peels.
Medium/Deep Peel
- Allow scabs to flake off your skin naturally. Avoid preemptive picking.
- Apply petroleum jelly to elevate comfort and healing on peeling areas.
- Use a cold compress on inflamed areas to ease discomfort.
For comprehensive aesthetic improvement, you may decide to pair your chemical peel with another one of our rejuvenating treatments. Our experts recommend waiting until your skin has healed completely before these, but treatments like microneedling, laser treatments, and dermal fillers can make your skin look even better.
Botox and Dysport
Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport treatments can reduce the appearance of your current wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming. We use these wrinkle relaxers for horizontal lines across the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, and for most other facial creases.
Laser Skin Treatments
Our Sciton BBL laser skin treatments address a variety of skin concerns, including pigmentation, redness, fine lines, and acne scars. These treatments stimulate collagen production and promote a clearer, more even complexion. Pairing laser treatments with a chemical peel enhances your skin’s texture and tone, giving you a radiant, refreshed appearance.
Microneedling
Microneedling uses fine needles to create micro-punctures in the skin, triggering the body’s natural healing process and boosting collagen and elastin production. This results in firmer, smoother skin with a reduced appearance of scars, pores, and fine lines. Our Morpheus8 microneedling devices use a patented mix of radiofrequency and microneedling for better outcomes than normal microneedling can usually produce.
Dermal Fillers
For added volume and contour, pair a chemical peel with dermal fillers. Fillers plump areas like the cheeks, lips, and under-eye hollows, giving you a youthful, rejuvenated look. Combined with the smoothing effects of a chemical peel, dermal fillers create a balanced facial appearance.
